Many of my Saint Louis friends have asked me to keep them posted on my experiences as a Fulbright Fellow teaching at Yonsei University in Seoul. This blog is a response to those requests. I returned to Saint Louis on July 5, 2009; however, I'll continue to add photos to the Blog until I run out of photos or time.

An especially lovely stone bridge in Shikinaen Royal Garden, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The highlight of this trip to Okinawa was visiting the Shikinan Royal Garden with Dr. Tomiko Hokama, Dean of the Graduate School of Health Sciences.

Shikinaen was the largest second residence for the Ryukyu royal families. The garden and villa were constructed in 1799 to entertain envoys of the Chinese emperor. It is one of Okinawa's 9 World Heritage sites and a designated national place of scenic beauty. The design of the garden encourages visitor to walk around a central pond with two small stone bridges and a hexagonal gazebo, Rokkaku-do.

Danny with University of the Ryukyus students after his lecture.
It was a genuine honor for Danny to serve as a Visiting Scholar in the Graduate School of Health Sciences at the University of the Ryukyus in Okinawa.

Dinner at a very fancy Hong Kong restaurant after the workshops Danny and Steve Behnke (APA Ethics Officer, sitting on Danny's left) gave for Alliant University/City University of Hong Kong.

Joshua in his very high tech classroom. It was a genuine pleasure for me to meet a few dozen of his students when I visited his school.

Danny was honored to meet Joshua's principal earlier in the month. As is usual in Korea, he left the meeting with several gifts.
One of the ubiquitous fruit vendors in Seoul. Note the merchant asleep in the back.

Lunch with Ki Ppudah, my TA from last semester. Ppudah is going to the University of Connecticut to work on her PhD in marriage and family counseling.

A man protesting Falun Gong persecution and especially the practice of organ harvesting.
Joshua drinking Chimay Blue, which he claims is the world's best beer. It is brewed by very happy Trappist monks.

International scholar's day at Yonsei; all international professors were invited to a barbeque at the President's home.

Sentiments Joshua likes. The case for vegetarianism is made in a cute 5 minute video you can see here.
Josh and his buddy eating in a restaurant where everything is served in a toilet bowel.
Joshua eating stinky tofu in a Taipei night market.
Alternative medicine being practiced in a night market in Taipei (the burning candle produces a vacuum that removes excessive ear wax).

Joshua in front of the 101 building, the world's tallest building (at least for the time being).

Danny, being a good psychologist, couldn't help but notice this very phallic fire safety poster in Taipei.

One day each year Korean students honor their professors by giving them small gifts; these are two of my undergraduate students who just brought a box of candy to my office.

Drinking beer with my students.

A coed recruiting other students for the Yonsei Martial Arts Club. I'm certain the short skirt and cute smile were sufficient motivation for several students to sign up who had absolutely no interest in martial arts.
